AMANI CENTRE SILVER JUBILEE ON SEPTEMBER 2017
Dear friend
It’s with great honor that Amani Centre is writing to you. We are writing to you as we appreciate that you have passed through Amani as a volunteer/field placement student/donor/partner. We remember and respect your participation in various development activities at Amani Center. Your contribution was very useful to us and will always be remembered; as we mark these 25 years silver jubilee you are part of the team.
This message is to inform you that Amani centre is reaching silver jubilee of 25 years since establishment in 1992. For all these years we have seen Amani grow from the Mango tree to storey build. We have seen the first disabled children being adults, we have seen the children with disabilities gets married, we have seen the student for field placement accomplish their dreams and pursue their careers, we have seen volunteers gain and upgrade their skills for their careers, from social workers, to physiotherapists and teachers. For us this is a matter of thanks giving to God as Amani Centre has become a father, mother and caregiver for people with disabilities and those without disabilities.
Since we are going to make the 25-year jubilee, we planned of starting a campaign in order to solicit some funds to mark the Day. Amani Centre Silver Jubilee celebrations are planned to be on September 2017. We hope to bring the parents and their children with disabilities and our young people with disabilities who have now become adults and they have their own families, preferably, we would like to invite some volunteers (at their own cost) from abroad who are ready to share their experiences on how they know Amani Centre. On Jubilee day we will have time to acknowledge the positive impact of the deceased, remember them and give respect.
However, we expect to make evaluation for Amani Centre Activities and its impact to the Tanzania and Morogoro communities since establishment. So as to understand where we did wrong and where we did right for the future positive running of organization.
With this message and you as a person who have worked/lived with the Amani centre community, we ask you to be part of the organizing committee of this jubilee, for you to contribute but also to encourage others to donate any amount they are owed in order to achieve this jubilee.
We will be pleased if you will help us source the funds from friends, relatives and organizations, so as we can mark this important day for the Amani centre and for the poor disabled that we have served for 25 years.
Let’s stretch our hands for others, be the voice for the voiceless. Together we can.

- We need to hire external evaluator from the Jordan University Morogoro that may cost us USD3000, the work that will take 37 days to be accomplished.
- Jubilee ceremony itself may cost USD2000, food and recreation, preparation of different events, transportation, appreciation gift, etc.
- Thus, we need USD 5000 before August 2017.

Amani centre is so much concerned with the poor and needy, this is why we go to visit them in their homes and make sure that with the little we have we share with them so that they may know that they are acceptable in the community. thanks to all those who contributed towards social care, this is how your money help the poor

The Amani/Berega Ecumenical Project:
Aim of the ProjectThe Ecumenical Project has brought together the Anglican and Catholic Dioceses of Morogoro to serve the disadvantaged and disabled of part of this region of Tanzania. Originally proposed by Friends of Amani, Tanzania and supported by the Oxford Diocesan Council for Partners in World Mission in the UK, this collaborative project has focused on practical collaborative working between the respective social organisations – Berega Ophanage (Anglican) and Amani Centre for the Mentally Disabled (Catholic). The Project aimed to create a dialogue and common action between the two churches in support of those in most need. It has also helped to develop a new level of understanding and sense of common purpose between the two churches in this part of Tanzania..............for more information on this please open the "current projects" page and get full details

GIVING IS A RELATIVE TERM, you can decide to give that which you know from the depth of your heart is going to help in one way or another, because giving has no formular. here at Amani some young girls have decided to make commitment to offer their life to serve these children, they are the first to join the nuns organization which has been established here at Amani Centre by the Bishop of Morogoro Diocese Rt Rev Bishop Teleshpory Mkude , where by young girls who would like to give their lives to the service to the poor as a commitment to serve and honor our Lord Jesus Christ where He said we are to love one another.

this is how your gift makes amani children happy! thanks to all those who are partnering with amani to keep a blaze the faces and hearts of these children...thank you also for planning to start partnering with amani
In Morogoro a times like this, in august 1st to august 8th there's annual national agricultural show where people share ideas, what they do and how they do it.....Amani was not left behind, we are also here to do awareness telling people what we do, how we do it and why we do.....we do have entrepreneurial activities which we use to raise funds for the disabled children...so if you by chance lives in morogoro and by chance visit NANE NANE grounds please visit our section opposite SUA section....PLEASE WELCOME
Everything that has ever existed in this world came as a result of an idea, so here there was an idea from some of our friends from the UK, they wanted an ecumenical project meaning the idea was that amani centre which is run by Roman catholic church works with Berega Orphanage which is run by The Anglican church. it's great to see now seminars has started and things are moving on so well and we hope for a bright future working together, recently we received Dr David from UK he came and carried our a seminar which involved staff from berega orphanage, staff from amani centre and the parents. this was a great event because he really taught both the staff and parents on how to handle children with special needs, the knowledge of this is really needed here because most of the parents associates children with special needs as something sort of a bad omen. check the pictures below
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A CAR GIVING BIRTH?
Here at amani centre we had a very wonderful pickup which we got as a gift from friends called bean feast, the car has been here for such a long time so Amani decided to make it give birth to two a motorcyle with a trailer and a mini van....wow! something so great...check down here for the pictures of the two
BARAKA is swahili word that means blessing, we are so grateful to get to accomodate a boy who is physically disabled his name is baraka...what is so special about baraka?...let me explain: this is a physically disabled boy but he has refused to say that disability is inability he hold up the truth that goes like this "disability is not inability" baraka is gifted in making shoes, not just shoes..i mean stunning shoes he does this and through this he raise funds to help in upkeeping his fellow disabled who live at amani, this is just so amazing and so encouraging, it makes me say that these children really have gift within them and all we can do is to encourage them and make them feel belonging, help them help themselves and they inturn help their fellows. and this is all amani is doing, we make sure we make them feel accepted and this makes them have sence of belonging and they respond by getting deep inside them and they come up with amazing gifts like baraka..who just as his name has become a blessing to amani

WELL...may i please get your attention for just a few minutes to explain it to you......
"Amani" is a swahili word meaning "Peace"...the word peace does not mean the absence of chaos...no no no...this word originates from a hebrew word "shalom" meaning "contentment" living to the fullest despite what's happening around you....and that's exactly what amani centre is doing..making sure that physically and mentally disabled persons live fully...contented..and reaching the goals they have in life just like any other person..just have a look at Benedict, He is so much interested in computers and as you can see his picture below..he has just stepped right on.
..DO YOU KNOW THAT YOUR INVOLVEMENT BRINGS "AMANI" IN THE LIVES OF THESE PRECIOUS PEOPLE? TAKE A STEP..GET INVOLVED!

KILOSA OUTREACH
The only way to know what’s happening around is
by walking around and meeting the
people concerned it’s like putting on the
shoes of the person concerned and by
doing that you’ll be able to know
where the shoes pinch, and from there you can
know what to do and how to do
it in a way that will really meet the person
concerned at the point of
his/her needs,
for this reason Amani decided to go to Kilosa to meet
the disabled and
their families. We met them and we were really touched for
instance we found
around seven women who were literally kicked out from
their matrimonial homes
just because they gave birth to disabled children,
to be sincere this really
touched the amani director and he decided to
welcome those children to come and
stay with him at amani centre, and this
is the reason why amani is
here.

COMPUTER PROJECT BY Friends of Amani from city of Bristol UK
IT is now a world which is being controlled by computers in almost every field,
meaning that computer literacy is something which is so significant now in the
lives of anyone who is living in this generation and in the generation to come,
this is why the friends of Amani from city of Bristol UK did not want Amani
staff and children to be left behind in this..so they
decided to set up a computer room where the amani children and staff will
be trained on computer skills. though the beginning is so small but we believe
we are going to get to the greatest heights because you have to start to be
great you don't need to be great to start..and a long journey begins with a
single step! below is the picture of Amani computer room..right now we have two
computers and we believe the people of goodwill will come and join hands with
these precious friends of amani from Bristol and it is going to be great and wonderful
so anyone is welcome to donate towards this project which has been initiated by
friends of Amani from city of Bristol UK. Special thanks goes to friends of
Amani city of Bristol UK..

Daycare:
Day care is going on very well we have over 60 students attending the day care
February 2014
Home visit: in February we have
succeeded to visit 18 children which have have different disabilites like down
syndrome, cerebral, physical disability, hydrocephalous and autism in 8
different wards, which are chamwino, K/ndege, sultan area, mafiga, uwanja wa
taifa, mbuyuni, mji mpya and
mazimbu.
Challenges:
in visiting these
children we realized that they really need a medicine called phenobabitone and
wheelchairs. we are really out to help these children if you can join hands with
us in this. you are so much welcome to help in any way
possible.
Student's and
volunteers:
in this month of february we have received visitors from two different colleges
which are KAPS the students were 5 in number and from institute of work we had 2
students. and also we had 2 students from
china, 1 from Argentina, one from switzerland, one from Korea who has left. they
were so happy to be here and work with us, we did a lot with them and they were
really a blessing to us. right now we still have two students from Norway and we
are still working here with them to minister to these children. we welcome
student's and volunteers from various colleges and universities from all over
the world. Amani welcomes you
all.
Mvomero School for the Deaf (Special school) (February 2014)
I am very happy to say Mvomero
special school for the deaf is opened and we have twelve children in class
and four teachers. The Board meeting decided the school fees for each child
should be 500,000Tsh. Per year and it has to be paid in two
terms
- First term 300,000
- Second term 200,000
Which we believe to be cheaper to average parents. But the fact is most of
these challenged children comes from a very poor families, and this is the reason why we are still finding ways to get sponsors to help these students
in their education
Fore example
the group of
twelve (12) that we have, four parents promised us
to pay all the
amount, three parents they capable to pay only 100,000
per year the rest
they can’t.
Other big challenges we still
have for the new special school are:

I am very happy to say Mvomero
special school for the deaf is opened and we have twelve children in class
and four teachers. The Board meeting decided the school fees for each child
should be 500,000Tsh. Per year and it has to be paid in two
terms
- First term 300,000
- Second term 200,000
Which we believe to be cheaper to average parents. But the fact is most of
these challenged children comes from a very poor families, and this is the reason why we are still finding ways to get sponsors to help these students
in their education
Fore example
the group of
twelve (12) that we have, four parents promised us
to pay all the
amount, three parents they capable to pay only 100,000
per year the rest
they can’t.
Other big challenges we still
have for the new special school are:
- Desks
- Books and other school
materials
- Sports and games
tools
- Audiometer
machine
- Hearing
aids

Home gardening
We now have our home garden in
which we get our daily vegetables meaning that we no longer buy green
vegetables.
About maize farming in Mikese and Mvomero we
harvested enough and still now we are eating Ugali from our own production.
We have planted maize and because of good amount of rain, the
maize has sprouted so well.

‘Anglican Priest dresses as Masai Warrior for Cultural Safari
Anglican Priest, Fr Graeme Fancourt, Priest in Charge of St Luke’s with St Bartholomew’s in Reading dressed as a Masai Warrior yesterday for a Cultural Safari event to raise funds towards Amani’s Special School project at Mvomero.
Hosted by Bridget and Leslie Green, two of the trustees of Friends of Amani Tanzania (FOAT), the cultural safari included pictures and video clips of safari animals; a ‘virtual’ tour of Amani’s centres at Chamwino, Mikese and Mvomero; Amani’s economical empowerment projects in the villages at Mvomero and demonstrations of ‘traditional’ costume. Guests were sustained throughout the event by ‘pit stops’ for Tanzanian street foods such as samosas, cassava chips, banana casserole and vitumbua.
Anasia Maleko, a SUA graduate now studying for a PhD in Agricultural Economics at Reading University, helped to organise and run the event, assisted by Aurelia and Lucy two of her Tanzanian friends and Sumi, a South African friend of Bridget and Leslie .
The safari was truly multicultural; Bridget was wearing clothing as befits her honorary status of an Elder of the District of Mvomero and guests included Caribbean and Malawian members of St Luke’s and St Bartholomew’s parish, friends from Reading University’s School of Agriculture, Policy and Development and other supporters of Friends of Amani from in and around Reading.
FOAT’s treasurer, Leslie Green said; “We were delighted that so many friends supported the event which raised £1,100 (Tsh2,750,000) towards the £13,000 (Tsh34,000,000) needed to complete Stage 1 of the project.”
Gratitude to the Greens and The Ecumenical and Inter-religious group of Reading
Heart felt gratitude and Congratulations to the Greens, FOAT and the Ecumenical and inter-religious group of Reading that successfully journeyed in the tour of Africa and brought our children the first blessings of the new special school. Thanks and may God give you back your resources to full measure. We request all who are willing to join us in this enterprise to kindly support the establishment of the Special School that will serve the whole of Tanzania.

The Ecumenical Team led by Fr. P. Kongalo
ECUMENICAL JOURNEY OF THE ANGLICAN AND CATHOLIC CHURCHES IN MOROGORO.
The Ecumenical work started by the Greens of Friends of Amani UK, saw a lot of progress in this month. The steering committee that constitutes members of The Anglican Church and The Catholic Church in Morogoro, visited the humanitarian and charitable projects of both institutions. In the course of visiting each others social, health and education services, the delegates also visited income generating activities related to the centres of charitable projects.
The Ecumenical delegates visited the Catholic project of Amani Centre for disabled person in its headquarter at Chamwino and its satellite centre in Mvomero. On the Anglican Church, the delegates visited Partmo Berega an ophanage. The delegates also had sometime to witness the great work on in Berega Hospital, The Anglican Bible College and Berega Nursing School. All the delegates testify to have learned a lot from each other and they are scheduled to meet in November to reflect more on the knowledge the two churches now have about it each other. The journey towards each other was quite energizing for the leaders of the two institutions. Congratulations to The Bridget Green and Leslie Green the great work initiated. Gratitude to the Assistant of the Anglican Bishop of Morogoro, Rev. Fr. Canon Munga and the Assistant of th Catholic Bishop of Morogoro, Rev. Fr. Patrick Kongalo, for the work of coordination of this highly rewarding exercise.
Promised Donations:
The collossium Hotel has confirmed its food supply. We are soon to be told the amount they will donate per month. On the same note of generosity through the Hotel's Sales Manager, Tanya, there will be a generous donation of clothing for Amani Centre.
Madam Pamela of Foundation International Schools, has collected some Items for Amani Centre and she is organizing her teaching staff to bring them over to Amani and spend a day or two with the children of Amani.
Brother Vincent a Franciscan Seminarian now doing his Theology has completed three Months of successful fundraising and networking for Amani Centre. Vincent managed to meet local people and foreign Embassies that have donated food and drinks for Amani. Some people have promised donations of monetary type for the renovation of Amani centre. Thanks for the generous gift of Rev. Vincent to Amani Centre. Amani wishes him well in is journey to the priesthood.
Education:
Amani Centre trying hard to prevent disabilities caused by poverty, has managed to successfully prepare 25 children for class one next year. The children were 35 in total but ten of them will not join primary education because of poor attendance in school. The poor attendance is caused by uncommitted parents who may be single parents or parents addicted alcohol and drugs. During the home visits we try to provide solutions to these challenges.
In Mvomero, 24 children are graduating soon from their nursery school course. This like the 25 of Chamwino, will also join primary education next year. A common need to all these children is that they need scholarship for their educational Journey. They food, good study facilities, medication and scholastic materials.
Health and Day Care:
The Physiotherapy and Day Care Departments continue to attend to children with all sorts of disabilities in the clinic and in the homes. In this month there were 13 new children. 47 children with challenges were attended to and 10 of them were referred to other health facilities.
Home visits were done in Mafiga, Chamwino, Mazimbu and kingo areas of Morogoro. In Mafiga three new clients were discovered and registered with Amani Centre.
In Mvomero, 26 families were visited in the areas of Mpapa, Mvomero itself, and Makuyu. The family received awareness and advice on disability and life related matters. Mvomero is doing well though with heavy basic challenges of Transport, basic drugs and sanitation facilities.
The various Projects are doing well. We now have more chicken, pigs and cows. In Mvomero there were attacks on Mangoes. We are now coordinating with SUA to make sure we solve the problem.

The Green's visit:
The Green's visit:
The Greens from the Friends of Amani in England visited Tanzania in the first two weeks of September. They had a busy schedule beginning in Dar then to Morogoro and finally back to their daily responsibilities in England.
In Dar es Salaam they visited and discussed in detail with the network of Donors of Amani in Dar es Salaam. The meetings were fruitful with some of the Dar es Salaam people promising aid and accompaniment of Amani in its struggle to support the disabled.
The end of the visit of Dar es Salaam was marked with a moving anniversary celebration of the thirty two years of Matrimonial covenant of the Greens. Abundant blessing to you Dear Greens.
The evening in Dar es Salaam also marked the First gathering of Friends of Amani in Dar es Salaam who included The Roberts Family, Anasia's Family and the Amani Management Team.
In Morogoro the Greens had many meetings with Amani Stakeholders with aspects of Ecumenism, Leadership and effective management as the main focus.
While in Amani, there were moments of informal gathering where the Greens shared a meal, gifts and recreation.
Amani Awareness Program
Amani awareness program rose to a unique platform this month. Instead of using the normal social halls and ceremonial platforms to offer awareness, this time they had their drums in the Tobacco foot ball grounds singing and cheering the Amani Soccer Team and one of Tobacco. Amani won and the many people who attended benefited from this disability awareness forum. Present in this moving event were the Greens, The management Team of Amani, Children of Amani Chamwino, Staff members and Amani Centre neighbours. News personnel of FM radios and Mwananchi Magazine also attended the exercise.
The BOCAR group Graces Amani again:
The BOCAR group offered a seminar on capacity building to the Amani Management team. Thanks to the commitment of this management experts who have been accompanying Amani in many leadership workshops and seminars. The most memorable event is their guide towards coming up with our present strategic plan.

The Goig Manager is supposed to visit us before the end of September, The colosseum are supposed to be specific on the Food supply aid, Foundation international are to visit Amani after a collection of gifts from the school body and the Union trust are supposed to visit Amani for familiarization and then see what kind of support they can give Amani Centre. In the coming week we shall have concrete commitments on lines of action of the above organization.
We are also to organize the many friends of Amani in Dar es Salaam towards deliberate events in aid of Amani Centre.
Hotel Colosseum:
Hotel Colosseum has confirmed its commitment to Amani Centre especially in providing monthly Food aid. By the coming week, the Hotel Management will confirm the regular amount of Food that will be provided to Amani Community in Morogoro. Thanks to Ms. Tanya.[Sales Manager} who is championing this great exercise of generosity.
Happy Birthday Dear Reachel [5th of September]:

1. The Day Care Centre:
The Day care has closed for the end of the year vacation. The day care will be reopened on the 7th of January, 2013. The school marked the closing of the year with a lovely special breakfast prepared by the teachers and the kitchen staff of Amani Centre. When all the children come back from their Holiday, then we shall celebrate our Christmas Party as a community.
2.Christmas Cards:
Our artists have been working hard through this month to make Christmas cards and gifts that will be send over to our Friends in England for sale. This is an effort to search for more funds for Amani Community.
3. Amani Centre Educational outreach:
We have started a rigorous awareness program to make sure that Amani Centre is well known with the educational institutions around our area. The aim of the campaign is to help in the following areas:
a. Announce to the people the opportunity of nursery school education for kids without disabilities in order to boost the learning of our kids. We have enough teachers and facilities to accommodate an inclusive aspect of Education.
b. Bring to the awareness of teachers and parents the opportunity in Amani Centre to deal with the problem of Slow learners who are many in our schools.
C. Bring to the awareness of students and teachers in our neighbourhood the possibility of using the Amani Hall for private studies for a little fees that will be a kind of donation for Amani Centre for the scholars in our neighbourhood.
d. We use this opportunity also to bring awareness to the schools about disabilities and the role of Amani Centre in the support of persons with disabilities. We are also using this chance to bring to the awareness of the public that Amani Centre is not a private home but an institution of the church serving all people who are living with disabilities.
We have so far visited twenty schools and the response has been very positive. The detailed report will be given in a special page in the coming week.
4. Volunteers.
We hope to receive many Volunteer in this end of year Vacation. One the very first ones for this month is Elly Maarifa. He is a social worker who has great experience in special needs sociology. He will be working in Mvomero. In the meantime he is helping in the designing and making of Christmas Cards that will be given to Judi and Guy the network in England.
November 2012
1. Silver Jubilee Celebrations:
November was a great month of prayer and merry making for Amani Centre for the gift of Fr. Kongallo and Fr. Sewando who were celebrating the Jubilee. The climax of the Celebrations was done in the home Parish of Fr. Beatus Sewando.
2. Magreth our Matron takes her Matrimonial Vows.
2. Volunteers:
In November we received the gift of two Volunteers. Isaac Mchingwa and Martha Kimaro. Isaac is an experienced Social worker and teacher. Martha is a special needs teacher and is working in the nursery School. She is also the Matron who has replaced Magreth who is now staying out of the centre after marriage.
October 2012
1. Looking forward to receiving as many volunteers as possible towards sharing talents, skills, and Love with our children.
2. Looking forward towards Nyerere day celebration. The great memory of the First President of the Republic of Tanzania. Great reflection for Amani Centre towards the Values and character of Nyerere in serving and accompanying the ordinary and poor people towards liberation. Suggestions are welcome on what we can do together along the lines of special education, special needs and special resources for people living with disabilities. Nyerere championed education for self reliance. During this time when Amani Centre is thinking about self-reliance projects, can we borrow a leaf from the thoughts and works of His Excellency Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere.
September 2012
The day Care:
The day care reopened. The children and the staff members are back and busy as the time left to complete this academic year is so short. Great thanks to all our friends who have made sure that the day care is running through their support.
First communion Celebration:
Three of our children received the Holy communion as part of their journey of the sacraments. Congratulations to the children and the Catechist who accompany them to the Eucharistic rite.
Time for Harvesting:
The community of Amani is grateful to God for the harvest of Onions, green vegetables and maize. Though it was not a good season, we are thankful that we got some products that were proudly gotten through responsible commitment of Amani workers and management. Congratulations for the Amani youth who worked so hard in the farm to see that our farms leads us towards self reliance.
The Amani Advisory Board Meeting:
There was a board meeting for Amani that was held within Amani Centre. The attendance of the members was good and the resolutions that dominated the meeting were the ones of projects towards self reliance. The Board members are quiet positive on the move to be self reliant through sustained projects in agriculture.
Project Enhancement in Mvomero.
For greater effectiveness of projects in Mvomero, Madam Getrude is in Mvomero for two months to work with the staff members in Mvomero in order to come up with greater productivity in the existing projects in farming and in education.
Volunteers:
There are a number of volunteers with us presently working in the nursery school, the farm and in the social work department. One of the volunteers is well known by the Amani community and network. His name is Mr. Makoye. Gratitude to all the volunteers for the good work you are doing for the children of Amani Centre. Amani's doors are happily open to all people who want to volunteer in the service of children living with disabilties.
Friendship With Sega Girls:
Sega girls visited our home to mark the beginning of special relations with this special girls secondary school whose main aim is to train and produce women leaders. A group of 23 girls with their teachers came and stayed with our children doing games and just quietly accompanying some of our children. Great beginning of a caring gesture from the girls and teachers of Sega. There is great hope for exchange of volunteer opportunities and sharing of facilities for the great health of the two institutions.
August 2012
Long Vacation for the Amani Centre Day Care: The day care has been closed for long vacations that will last for one and half months. This is partly because of a directive from the government that all institutions should close for a longer period to accommodate the challenges of the National census scheduled to take place in August. Day care closed on the 3rd of August and the holiday will run up to the 14th of September this year.
Amani Centre's Outreach at Morogoro's Agricultural Show: Amani Centre has acquired a pavilion for meeting the people at the Eastern Zone of Tanzania Agricultural Show. This will be the only special needs pavilion in the whole exhibition hence giving the regional event the inclusive face that most exhibitions do not have. This will be a week long event and we are set to network and provide information on disabilities to the public.

July 2012
The Day Care of Amani Centre Reopens for a month of full time class session before closing in August for long holidays. The Children arrived back to school and it was evident how they missed one another after the two weeks short vacation. They were shouting with excitement and asking each other how the holiday was.
Two Parents get training on dealing with their children with disabilities. The two mothers enjoyed their week of stay in Amani. One mother was from Turian village and the other was from Matombo
village.
Amani Centre projects in Farming are already giving nice fruits for the home. The Home is able to get vegetables and maize has already been harvested for the much need cooking flour.
Amani Centre, Training for Life [TFL] group from SUA, AIESEC Volunteers and MEHAYO Centre for children with disabilities start a partnership that will benefit many children living with disabilities in Morogoro and other regions of Tanzania. TFL is a SUA initiative on accompanying high school youth before they join university. The university trains these youth towards responsible living and the use of their youthful energies positively. MEHAYO Centre is a sister centre for mentally handicapped youth. They are a stone's throw away from Amani Centre in Morogoro. AIESEC is a world wide movement of university students who are out to work with others in community with a major aim of giving the youth a platform to explore and develop their leadership potential for the youth to have a positive impact in society.
This union was initiated out of intern reflection sessions led by Amani for two AIESEC interns: Letitia Nettey from Botswana and Mariana Garcia G. from Mexico. This union is called Mikono ya Kusaidia [Helping hands]. This union was inaugurated officially on 14th july, 2012 in the presence of the Directors of Amani Centre and MEHAYO. Present also in the opening ceremony were the country leaders of AIESEC and TFL. On this day, Amani Centre and MEHAYO also officially opened their union.
The day was marked with moving speeches, singing, dancing, eating and drinking. Over 150 people attended the ceremony among them being parents of children with disabilities.
SUA Interns: We have been blessed with eighty interns from SUA who are going to work with our Centre for a period of five weeks. Most of this interns are training in Agricultural Business and in Food and Nutrition. This serves as one the first actions of the Amani Centre, SUA and Reading initiative.
Impact of our Trade Fair Outreach: We continue communicating with many companies that we met at the trade fair in Dar es Salaam during this year's international event. Many people have promised to meet with us and they are will to work with us. We have sent them the Amani profile and needs and we hope for the best.
One fast moving company that works with Early childhood and Primary education at the level of constructions and curriculum development has visited Amani Centre and has shown great interest in building the first ever recreation facility for children with disabilities. They have gathered facts and they are working on them towards starting this unique venture. If that centre succeeds, then it will be a great resource for children and it will be another means of treatment and awareness on disabilities to our Morogoro population.
OLYMPICS: With all eyes now set on the Olympics in England, we are thinking seriously on the sports life and talent development of people with disabilities. We are reflecting on a sport event of the outlook and philosophy of the Olympic games meant for the disabled here in Morogoro and indeed for the rest of Tanzania. Many companies have games departments that are quiet vibrant but most of the companies lack inclusiveness in all their games.

Two weeks holiday for the Day Care
The Day care of Amani Centre closed shortly for holidays. This was a two weeks holiday which affected only the day scholars. The resident children will go to their relatives during the long vacation in August.
RELATIONS WITH SOKOINE UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE [SUA]
We had very productive meetings with Dr. Damas of the Agri-business department. He came to Amani Centre to inspect Amani Centre's capacity and standards towards sending interns during the university's placement vacations which fall on July till August. Dr. Damas found our institution worthy of the placement and in July/August placements Amani Centre will start receiving SUA Interns.
We continue following the SUA, Amani Centre and Reading University partnership. The universities are ready to begin exchange programs but we are still waiting for SUA to do some basic communications with Reading. The Dean of Students has been to busy and hard to hold further meetings with. We are still following him for a meeting to initiate his communication with Reading.

May 2012
Our Outreach Program at Matombo village on the 19-21st of May was a success and over 140 people showed asking for our service.
April 2012
This past month has been full of activities as usual
For a week our friends Leslie and Bridget from Friends of Amani UK visited us and shared their knowledge to make the Amani Centre a sustainable organization. We had a splendid time together and we were sad to see them leave after such a short time. We will miss them, but hopefully they will return soon.
It is farming season which means that we have worked hard over at Mvomero and Mikese making sure that the crops are planted and growing like they should.
We also welcomed Gustav, a Swedish teacher student, he will be staying with us for 5-6 weeks working with physical activities and disabled children. He also made our outreach program possible later in May.
